Union of Britannia a. France

In the year 2182, on the 500th anniversary of Ireland added to the Union, and with the first generation being born off of Earth now travelling between the Solaris System's planets, the Angevine Commonwealth decided on a radical change to the existing Union flag, aiming for something traditionally familiar whilst also highlighting the explorative and innovative minds of the country, and their ambitions to advance in all directions.

The Angevine Commonwealth of Britannia and France, commonly known as the Angevine Union (AU), or Britannia, is a sovereign state primarily located in western Europe. The country includes the islands of Great Britain and Ireland as well as many smaller islands; mainland and island territories of the old Kingdoms of France, Burgundy and the Provence; and the islands of Majorca and Minorca. The French part of the AU shares a border with Spain and Catalunya in the south; the East French Republic on the east; and with the Alpine Republic, Savoie and Liguria-Piemonte on its southeast border. Apart from these land borders, it is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The AU has an area of 857,848 square kilometres (331,216 sq mi) making it the 34th largest sovereign state in the world. It is the 8th most populous country, with an estimated 545,029,000 inhabitants. 

The relationships among the countries have changed many times in history. The Principality of Wales was incorporated into the Kingdom of England in 1329. In 1420, the Kingdom of France was united with the Kingdom of England by marriage, forming the Angevin Union of England and France. By the mid-15th century, the two thrones had been merged and Angevine dominance over the British Isles became paramount. The Scottish crown has a long history of English subjugation and was formally integrated by 1616. The Irish Island was next to fall to British supremacy, and was incorporated piecemeal by 1682. The neighbouring kingdoms of Burgundy and Provence would soon join with the Angevine Union, and by the 19th century, most of Western Europe was under the rule of Angevine monarchs.

The AU's form of government is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system. Its capital is the Crown Dominion, however Parliament is convened in the Dominion of London-Wesminster, an important planetary city and financial/cultural centre with the largest urban area in Europe. The current Angevine monarch - since 23 January 2154 - is King Edward X. The Angevine Commonwealth consists of nine countries: England (Westminster), Greenwich (Canterbury-Faversham), Burgundy (Dijon/Paris), Aquitaine (Bordeaux), Orleanais (Orleans), Dauphine (Marseille), Wales (Aberytswyth), Scotland (Edinburgh) and Ireland (Dublin).

Nyxos Mons, Normandy and the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are direct Crown possessions - the later as result of the Naval Dominion Act in 1678 - and the Angevine Government is responsible for defence and international representation. The Angevine Union has twenty-one Overseas Territories, including the disputed areas of Ceuta, Malta, Cyprus, Alexandria and Gibraltar. These are the remnants of the old Angevine Empire. Angevine influence can be observed in the language, culture and legal systems of many of its former colonies (e.g. the Republic of Aegypt, the United Kingdom of New England).

As well as those territories, the Angevine Union also possesses six Offplanet Territories governed directly by the Union.
