Description

It is 1798, and the Iberian Peninsula sits upon the edge of disaster. The long-reigning House of Coimbra-Savoie, rulers of the Crown of Castile and its many possessions, face a mounting rebellion of the peasantry in the extremes: the south in La Marcha and to the northwest in Galicia. A different form of rebellion is growing in the hearts of the cities, with an even lesser love of the nobility. As well as the peasantry and the city-dwellers, the Spanish Catholic Church in Toledo faces a growing ecclesiastical threat from the neighbouring Anglican Catholic Kingdoms of Portugal and the Algarve as well as from the reigning monarchy in Aragon - though the Aragonese Crown faces internal strife of its own.

The neighbouring Kingdom of Naples & the Provence has cornered the Aragonese and left them with little control of maritime trade in the Mediterranean. War brews along the border in Roussillon, and they are desperate to regain some control over their own affairs.

To the south of the Castilian and Aragonese lands, the long-standing Crusader states remain stalwart in their defiance of the Spanish claims on their territory; and with the protection of Avignon and the various Angevine powers in control of the Mediterranean, their own independence is all but guaranteed. The independent city-states of Cadiz and Seville receive similar protection, and with the House of Coimbra-Savoie's tenuous grasp on the Castilian throne, they face little threat of reconquest.

// So, chances are a lot of this will change as I keep working forward, but I wanted to work on a different region and in a different era. Plus, I wanted to see how this style looks, and I rather enjoy it :]
